Dmitry Kotov's commentary

When IT World reached out for this profile, the angle they wanted was the intersection of AI and Web3. At the time, most coverage treated these as separate domains — you were either an AI person or a crypto person. My argument was that the convergence was inevitable and already underway. Decentralized compute networks like Akash were solving the GPU shortage that centralized cloud providers couldn't address fast enough. On-chain data was becoming a first-class training signal for financial models. And smart contracts were evolving into autonomous agents that needed LLM reasoning to handle edge cases. What I tried to convey in the interview was that the real opportunity wasn't in either technology alone, but in the systems-level thinking that connects them. The companies I was building at the time — Neuron Expert for AI analytics, LegacyQuant for quantitative trading — both drew on blockchain data pipelines feeding into machine learning models. That architectural pattern, where Web3 provides the data layer and AI provides the intelligence layer, is now mainstream. Back then it was still contrarian enough to warrant a feature article.
