AI applied to environmental science is largely a pattern-recognition story. Satellite imagery, sensor arrays, and decades of readings exceed what any team can inspect, and models are good at finding the anomaly in that volume — subsidence beginning under a pipeline, an ice road thinning early. What they cannot do is decide what to do about it, and in a region where evacuation and shutdown decisions carry enormous cost, the value of the technology lies in shortening the time to a human judgement rather than in replacing it.
